Sleep Apnea is a condition that affects many Americans. One with Sleep Apnea stops breathing multiple times while sleeping. Sleep Apnea can result in many health issues and even death.
Snoring and interrupted breathing can be a sign of Sleep Apnea, which prevents one from getting a good night sleep.
Sleep Apnea symptoms are: fatigue, feeling tired during the day, weight gain, snoring, insomnia, dry mouth and not breathing while asleep for seconds and even minutes. Sleep Apnea can be treated with an Oral Appliance therapy (OAT)
or CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure).
OAT
could be the first line of treatment for Sleep Apnea caused by obstruction of the airway, as a result of a large tongue and excess tissue in throat or posterior nasal structure. OAT is a custom made device by a dentist that opens the airway. OAT is similar to a mouth guard
and brings the lower jaw forward. This result in moving the tongue and back of the throat forward which opens up the airway.
